Welcome
to the Irish Archaeological Field School. The school has been established
to provide an opportunity for everyone to experience at first hand
the excitement of archaeological excavation, from students of archaeology
and anthropology to those simply interested in dipping in to Irelands
past. This is not your run of the mill school (although we have excavated
the occasional medieval mill in our time!). The excavations will be
undertaken in a research environment led by a team of highly qualified
and experienced archaeologists. And the excavations will only be the
start of it – we are organising an extensive programme of cultural
activities including tours of historic sites, folklore, reconstructions,
re-enactments, language, music, food and more. The
school will be open to all from May 2009. The programme is being
developed and refined as you read and this site will be updated
monthly. You can register your interest
now and we will keep you informed of progress, or feel free to drop
in on the website from time to time.
